Xbox 360 freezes during update
Let it cool, then see what happens when you boot. Should be fixed. This is ONLY applicable when the video output seems to be the only thing affected, as in your case.
Sorry I do not have a chip name or pictures. I'm just writing this off the top of my head and since the question IS 4 years old no body would probably want them anyways. Whenever an XBOX starts to freeze upon bootup or within just a few minutes of gameplay it is usually an indicator that your unit is about to get the dreaded Red Rings Of Death A.
We've repaired many systems for this issue. We highly recommending seeking out a reliable game repair shop that offers a reball service with a good warranty. Always ask to see that machine the shop will be using to repair your XBOX If all they have is a heat gun of some sorts, i highly recommend that you don't choose to get the repair performed at that shop. I had a launch , and it started doing the same thing in It took about months to go through the entire process you've described, and no amount of compressed air, or any other troubleshooting could save it.
I would compare the cost of reball service with the cost of replacing it, and go with whichever seems more advantageous to your needs. I suggest you if your xbox still has warranty to call to the microsoft offices so the can change your xbox, that was what i did. Later it happened again and i had no warranty anymore, so i took my xbox to a hardware shop so they could fix it, that can be the best alternative. There's a do-it-yourself alternative: Unplug everything except from the power cable, cover the fan with chopsticks, wrap your xbox arround a hot blanket and turn it on, 15 mins should do it.

I've done a few troubleshooting steps: Unplugged everything from the xbox including usb wireless, a usb stick, hard drive, power, and video , and replugged in only the power and video cable.
Started the xbox from a wired controller, while holding the Y and Right Trigger buttons, which some forum posts suggested would reset the video settings. Used the same power and av cables with our other xbox on the same tv to see if it were an issue with the cables. Attempted to boot up an xbox update as described on the xbox. I also checked all the capacitors for any bulking or leaks, and everything looks fine. Used the same tv and cables with a second xbox , and everything works correctly. Improve this question.

Half tempted to hold down the power for a full shut down restart.
Wife's Xbox was updated no problems What update is that, the big November one? StitchExpsps posted If your update freezes, TAP the power button once, wait five seconds and tap it again, and it will resume applying the update at the last "checkpoint.
So this is a regular update? I got excited hoping it was my preview of the November update finally rolling out to me. The update is the November dashboard redesign. I don't know if they are applying regular updates alongside it, but the big redesign is the one I got tonight. I also had it freeze while applying update, and did the thing above and it worked perfectly. The update was around 1GB. Yea it's the new dashboard..
I luckily didn't have issues with install. I'm Usually on my phone so typos. Will happen live with it. So I get home from work, looking to watch Netflix, turn on Xbox, has a system update so I update.
I decide to watch TV in the meantime, check back every so often to see progress, check it, Xbox is frozen on the start up loading screen. I restart my system and same thing happens. It does its logo fly by, then a white screen with a loading circle then my background picture from the theme I have pops in, circle still going but 5 seconds later, it freezes.
I've done this 3 times now, same result. Even have the disc tray empty. Has this happened to anyone else? Solution seems to be unplugging your network cable. Freeze occurs when you try to sign into your live account. Have you tried booting up without being connected to Xbox Live? I had a similar issue and was unable to load the home screen. Unplugged my Xbox from the network and it booted normally. Haven't had the issue since.
